Consigliere - the word describes a position in the Cosa Nostra, the Sicilian Mafia, or in La Cosa Nostra, it´s Italo-American offshoot

The Consigliere is the personal adviser of the Don or the Capo de tutti i capei, the highest rank in mobster hierarchy.

Consiglieres, unlike normal mobsters, don´t necessarily need to be Sicilian.  Oftentimes are they immigrants in the USA as well, for example german Tom Hagen in the Godfather-triology.

And often are they the best dressed mobsters- since their clothes don't need to withstand fights or physical work.

The Consigliere acts in the background, silently pulling the strings.
